Analog vs. Digital
Digital Plates are created without the use of negative.
Digital Plates are created without the use of negative. Instead of film, a black layer is embedded onto the plate material. The digital platesetter, a Kodak Thermoflex, by means of a laser beam, images the information directly on the surface of the plate.
After a plate has been imaged, it is processed in the same manner as a conventional plate. However, since there is no film, no vacuum or cover sheet is needed. The result is less light scatter and greater reproduction.

The dots on a digital plate are slightly smaller and are more rounded shape than a dot on a traditional flexo plate.

This results in a more accurate printed dot, more control and less gain on press.
